Caleigh is in preschool!

We received the materials from PA Cyber and started homeschooling 'K4' on September 15. Caleigh loves loves loves school and asks to do her 'school work' every day. We flew through 20 lessons in 5 days and Zach has enjoyed them too! I'm sure it will slow down but we're pressing on and going until Caroline wakes up most days.

Then Sept. 22 we started the Cyber co-op. Caleigh is in a class to reinforce her K4 lessons and another for music. She said she "loved it!" We are so proud of her!

Our girls

Caleigh doing diligent work on her homeschool materials.

Doesn't Caroline look so mature in this picture!? I think it's more the outfit that strikes me and less the face.

Hams on the playground

Another good Saturday! Off to Linvilla for Appalachian string music and looking around at their pumpkin patch and arts/craft festival. Then off to look for back roads and buy a few pumpkins and hang out at a park. Beautiful day.

Same outfit, same spot, same age, different daughter

Caleigh was a little more cooperative than Caroline, but they both looked too cute in their pretty striped shirt. Most of the shots of Caroline were 'in motion' blurry shots as she wanted OFF. But it's fun to recreate moments and pictures from Caleigh's early months.

Alert!

A picture of all three looking at the camera and smiling! Sad...this is our only one and just look at their little bitty faces so far apart from each other....;-)

We probably should have stopped this...

but it was cute.

All about bees and honey

.

So off we went to Bartram's Garden on a Saturday in September to learn about bees and honey. Philadelphia's honey festival.

The kids made pictures with nuts, berries and twigs, then squeezed the bee sleeper (the smoker or something on display), before looking at dead bees through a magnifying glass. And Caleigh tried on bee apparel. We also saw an 'original' bee play/performance (luckily Mama and Daddy had their free honey beer to get them through this...). Then to the bee frame demo! We saw live (smoked for safety) bees and smelled the honeycombs. Fun outing!

Daddy thought it was quite funny that Caleigh had flowers on her dress. We decided not to kid her that bees would be attracted to her...

"Beekeepers across the United States and the rest of the world celebrate the 200th birthday of Philadelphian Lorenzo L. Langstroth, The Father of Modern Beekeeping, born at 106 South Front Street in 1810. Philadelphia’s 2010 Honey Festival will begin by commemorating the life and work of Rev. Langstroth (LLL) for his invention, the removable frame hive."

Bubbles on the porch

Caleigh is introducing Caroline to such wondrous things...as the joys of bubbles! Dan snapped these pics after hearing quiet and then giggles from the porch. Caleigh had decided the girls needed some bubble time. Caroline was trying to mimic the blowing, but it came out raspberries.

And don't you just love the footed PJ look!?

The unstoppable Caleigh!

Nope, this girl isn't going to be stopped from having fun by a silly leg cast! Love that grin of determination. A little help from Daddy 'up' the hill was needed, though. As Zach would say, "dat otay, ca-ee!" (translation: "that's okay, Caleigh!")

We have yet to get the white stars painted on the cast. Oh well. She was pretty patriotic anyway!

YUMMY! Eatin' my orange and green!

Thanks for the yummy dinner! Caroline mostly skipped the pureed stage of food and with new opposing pairs of teeth enjoys digging into all kinds of chunky goodness. The top two teeth started coming in early Sept and here near the end they are about 1/2 way out. I love the toothless grin stage, and now love the 4 teeth grin stage. ;-)

So Caleigh broke her leg...

She is in a cast and is just fine. Hairline fracture of the tibia. Expected to fully recover. Will wear cast for 3 weeks, then take it easy for 1 month. Sigh. So much for soccer this fall, as it starts mid-casting.

We think the injury happened Sunday, Aug. 29 with Zach falling off a cooler Caleigh was pushing him around on and onto her right leg. She barely cried but then hobbled around and said it hurt if you 'scwushed' it so we took her to the doctor and for an x-ray on 9/2. Over the long weekend she seemed to be getting better, but was still limping and not bearing full weight rightly on her leg by 9/8, when we went to CHOP and left with a red, white and blue cast. Caleigh was a trooper (better than Mama) and is enjoying showing it off to her friends. The cast goes from toe to above a slightly bent knee. She is walking around and playing without much interruption (but watch out when she swings it!).

We are praying for a full recovery, and fully expect there to be one.

Update - now days away from the cast being removed Caleigh is still doing well. She is experiencing stinky cast syndrome (actually she doesn't seem to mind, but Dan and I are experiencing it...). Many have commented that the cast doesn't seem to have slowed her down at all and she is handling it very well. The challenge will to be sure she doesn't hurt herself before she re-strengthens the leg.

More from the park

Fun!!

Susquehanna River Park

A last minute decision to meet after church an hour+ down the road worked out very well. We played on the playground equipment, ate a yummy picnic lunch, kicked the soccer ball, took a short hike along the river, and ate ice cream on the way home (yes...in a cemetery - it was very quiet). Caleigh and Zach were a mess!!

Thanks for meeting us an hour+ from your home, too, Oma and Jochen!

Caroline at 11 months

Yep...we missed 10 months. Blame the Mama.

Isn't she adorable! (notice there is no question mark on that statement ;-) She has a huge grin. And her little but growing bottom two teeth and being met by slivers of top two teeth. For a kid who much prefers food to bite (instead of pureed anything), this is good news.

She liked to mix it up with her brother and sister. She really likes being carried around. She quickly goes back and forth between shy and flirtatious -- she will get a stranger's attention then dig her face into our shoulder, but they better keep looking or she'll try and get their attention again. She really liked climbing steps. She is good and safe going in/out the porches (small 1/2 step which she takes going forward) but less focused going up the main stairwell.
