Going fishin'
The crew met in southern West VA for a long weekend of hanging out and doing nothing much. We four Schantzes, Mom and Kenneth, and Logan and Ciera took over a 'river house' and had a great time. Enough room to stretch out at night and relax during the day, inside and out. It's vacation! so the one bathroom worked out fine. A dishwasher (other than Mom ;-) would have been nice, but there was plenty of room to eat in the kitchen and on the patio. And beautiful views of the river from the house and the riverbank. I would say especially from the hammock swing at the river (where I spent a lot of time). ;-)
It rained the first morning, but the canopy of the big tree kept us mostly dry to get some good fishing in. Caleigh was most excited about going down to the river to fish with Uncle Logan and Aunt Ciera. Zach didn't want to be left behind either! Good thing we brought some jackets and sweaters for the mountain temps! It warmed up during the day but the early mornings and evenings were wonderfully chilly. And good thing we remembered the "John Deere" water boots and Zach's water shoes. Perfect for the dirt/mud around the river bank.
Logan caught 20 fish the first day (bass, blue gill, red eye)! Many were quite small and all went back in the river (up to 5-6"). The kids now think all you have to do is cast a line, wait a minute or two and pull in a fish. Oh how their great-grandma wishes that were ever the case for good, big trout. ;-)
Logan, Ciera and Kenneth moved to a different, deeper fishing hole the second day and caught bigger fish (Logan the biggest, Ciera the most and Kenneth the smallest ;-). Unfortunately we were instructed to not actually eat them as the river could be polluted. It is WV... ;-> But the joy was in the catching (and bragging rights, it appeared).
