NY September vacation

Schroon Lake, Adirondacks Region, NY.
What a wonderful week! We are so thankful to have had this time away. Beautiful weather, not much of an agenda, fall colors on the tree, hot-air balloons, camp fires, s'mores, hot cocoa, sittin' by the lake. The kids were great. We took a long scenic drive one day north (and east and west) without any melt-downs. We even got home after 5 nights away and a long drive home feeling rested and happy.
These pictures are from our first evening at the cabin. We unloaded the car, put on more layers, and headed to the playground a short walk away (within the adjacent campground). The weather was nice, sunny, but with a crispness bordering on chilly most of the days. The kids enjoyed the playground -- we went nearly everyday. Caleigh got sap all over her on the slides, but it was worth it. We arrived at the end (thankfully) of a power outage from Hurricane Ike coming through with strong winds. By the time we got back from the park the lights (and heat) were back on. ;-)
We rented a cabin across from a church friends' parents, who were exceptional hosts. We received a tour of her incredible flowers, water fountains and plantings; were encouraged to use their spacious lake view screened porch for internet; were kept in the know with a local paper referencing the hot air balloon festival over Lake George. The cabin was on Lake Schroon with beautiful views of colored trees and hills. We used lots of the free firewood outside an in the cabin. The kids did well sleeping in the same room. We brought lots of food and enjoyed cooking outside for dinners and the quietness of routine breakfasts (just like at home). We did get out for a big breakfast of sweet potato and blueberry pancakes one morning. Caleigh ate the entire 'big as the plate' pancake!
